So, here I am, finally opening up a public blog. There are things that happen, things that we all think about, connections to be drawn, and things to be realized. I hope that here, my personal perspective will help some one out there --- and perhaps yours mine as well. :)

My last post was nearly two years ago. It is not going to be filtered, so read at your own accord. It's been a year and a half since I left my job at the correctional facility. Charlotte: 2 weeks later - A tale of divergence

A little over a 2 weeks ago, the CMPD shot and killed Keith Scott.  (NPR, 09/16) Ever since then there has been a public reawakening of old southern pains in a city striving to be the new face of the south. After the violent rioting, peaceful protests, release of videos, and a very vocal city council meeting, where are we, two weeks later, as the citizens of Charlotte? The streets are back to normal. The curfew is lifted. The state of emergency (for the protests) is over. If you did not see the news for a week or two, you might have not known anything ever occurred. I think there are few separate, but important issues that are often conflated in this incident: Structural racism, Socioeconomic class, and believe it or not --- the segregation of Charlotte's schools. Running Shoe-less

I had a dream the other night I was running, and it was one of the most freeing dreams ever. Yesterday, I woke up and lived that dream. Shoeless. For about two months now, I have gone "barefoot". I don't wear my normal shoes anymore, unless I have to (for professional meetings, etc). This all started when I started running about 10 months ago. I started seriously running around October 2009. I had a pair of gym shoes at the time, a pair of sketchers, that I had been wearing for 2-3 years to workout. I lifted in them, ran in them, and they were pretty flat. When I was running, I noticed pains in my foot and knees while on the treadmill. So I switched to the elliptical for a while, which helped relieve the pain. I went home over the winter break, and got a pair of Nike livestrong running shoes.
